Dear Rykelan,

Happy New Year, Nugget <3

I love looking back at these pictures of you. I forgot how much you were obsessed with Mommy’s sunglasses. You were always stealing them and wearing them around the house. Look how cute you were in your fuzzy footy pajamas!

This was our first winter together, and you loved playing outside. Your little cheeks would get so rosy red, and your snow pants made your walking more of a waddle. At the end of December, we got some new furniture. You and the dogs loved Mommy’s special chair.

We took you to a restaurant for the first time: Texas Roadhouse. The hostess sat us in a booth that everyone who came into the restaurant had to walk past. You said hi to absolutely everyone. You didn’t eat much beyond French fries and ketchup, but you had so much fun. You chugged the chocolate milk we put in your sippy cup.

I loved how much you enjoyed books - both as your mom and as an author. Sometimes we’d read our own books together, side-by-side. And coloring! When you were this little, you’d color on your own. It wasn’t until later, when you were older, that you wanted me to color for you.

This is also about when Apryl started babysitting you a few times a week so I could work while Daddy was going to grad school. You adored her, and she was so good with you.

We all miss you, sweet boy. Everyone who ever met you misses you, and people who are getting to know you through these letters carries you in their hearts, too.

The world is so much better because you were in it.

Love you,

Mom
